A leading top Tier European Corporate & Investment Bank with a global reach

Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking (SG CIB) ranks among the top financial services providers in the Euro zone. Every day, across the world, SG CIB teams assist issuer clients (corporates, financial institutions, public sector, investment funds) and investors (institutionals and retail) with their financing or investment projects in a spirit of long-term partnership.

Three areas of expertise

Covering Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific, we create and implement high-performance, integrated financial solutions that combine our expertise in the three areas in which the bank has developed a leadership position, as attested by our top rankings and awards.

Investment banking: providing clients with strategic advisory and capital raising solutions.
Building on our strategic dialogue with clients, we offer a global advisory approach from M&A to capital management. Housing top-tier debt and equity capital market access under one roof, we provide integrated and tailor-made capital raising solutions to accompany our clients’ strategy, drawing on our position as one of the top 5 euro bond houses since 2005 and as leader in French Equity Capital Markets with European reach.

Global markets: investment and risk management solutions for investors.
The 2,600 strong integrated cross-asset platform provides seamless access to global markets across all asset classes (equity, fixed income & currencies, commodity and alternative investments - from cash to derivatives). We develop advisory, investment and risk management solutions for the specific needs of each investor based on our number one worldwide equity derivatives franchise since 2000 and leading positions in fixed income, commodities and research.

Global finance: integrated capital raising, structured financing and hedging solutions for issuers.
Our global financing solutions for issuers encompass debt to equity capital raising, a leading expertise in structured finance (acquisitions, export, natural resources, infrastructure & asset based, media & telecom, real estate & lodging..) which has won many international accolades over the years, as well as customised hedging services for interest rate and currency risk.

The performance and development of these front-offices activities relies on a strong cooperation with all of our Resources functions such as Operations, Information Technology, Accounting & Finance, and Human Resources.

A strong international dimension

Present in more than 40 countries, we serve our clients through our extensive network in Europe and a long-standing presence in the Americas and Asia-Pacific.

SG CIB employs close to 12 000 talented professionals with more than 50% based outside of France. Over 40 languages are spoken every day within our teams.

We aim to:

  • Develop our activities in Europe (Italy, Germany, Spain, United Kingdom…) and maintain our leadership in France.
  • Develop businesses around competitive strengths in North America (US and Canada) and Asia-Pacific (Hong Kong, Japan, Australia)
  • Pursue focused development in emerging countries (China, Korea, Turkey, Gulf Countries, Poland, Brazil and Russia)

New markets are opening up. New solutions need to be adapted. New products must be brought to market. New opportunities are to be seized, worldwide.

Our ambition: bringing value

Our shared ambition across divisions and regions is to bring value to our key stakeholders:

- Our clients by partnering with them in their endeavors
- Our employees by fostering and rewarding both individual talent and teamwork
- Our shareholders by delivering sustainable performance
- Our community by committing to a strong corporate responsibility approach

Clients are at the core of our business

  • Clients are at the center of our activities, and client orientation is at the core of Evolution, our enhanced business model.
  • We tailor solutions for them by combining our teams’ expertise, addressing the specific requirements of issuers – Corporates, Financial Institutions and public sector - and investors, both institutional and retail.
  • Thanks to our strong relationships built on trust, more than 2/3 of revenues derived from client activities over the past years and we have seen a growing market share across our 3 areas of expertise.

Corporate and Social Responsibility at SG CIB

Société Générale's core strategy is to create lasting value for its shareholders, clients and staff. Yet this objective is only meaningful if it forms part of a broader policy designed to promote social development and environmental protection. SG CIB continues to be proactive in this area in response to growing stakeholders' expectations, focusing on 3 principal areas:

Sustainable Banking: we seek to take a "responsible" stance in the way we carry out our corporate and investment banking activities. In September 2007, Société Générale officially announced the adoption of the Equator Principles, a voluntary set of guidelines developed for managing social and environmental issues relating specifically to project finance.

Towards Carbon Neutrality: we are also focused on reducing the direct impact our activities have on our environment, notably decreasing our carbon emissions through behaviour change and offsetting any emissions we are unable to reduce in that manner by purchasing emission rights. Our goal with this initiative is to reduce our carbon footprint to zero in the years to come and become a reference in the business.

Our Citizenship Programme: this programme aims to initiate a proactive dynamic of 'community involvement' at the SG CIB level, thereby supporting the Group's commitments in the area of professional and social inclusion, by combining corporate support to local communities and staff participation worldwide. Focusing on the common global theme of social inclusion via education, the Programme brings financial and human resources support as well as business expertise to partner charities.

As an example, through our partnership with the international humanitarian organisation CARE, we are accompanying three education projects over the next three years in Peru, Mali and Bangladesh.
